Study of Artistic Projects of 2023 Eleusis (submitted for funding to the Greece 2.0 National Recovery and Resilience Plan)

Studies

In 2023, Greece hosted the European Capital of Culture for the fourth time in its history, in the city of Eleusis. Aiming at the internationalisation, as well as the extroversion of Greek cultural production and the creation of competitive cultural productions and products, the strategy of the 2023 Eleusis European Capital of Culture follows the National Development Strategy and integrates the objectives of the 2030 Agenda for Culture in all its artistic programmes and actions (Culture 2030 Goal campaign (2019), "Culture in the Implementation of the 2030 Agenda").

The artistic projects of the 2023 Eleusis European Capital of Culture form the core of the activities of the institution hosted by Greece in the city of Eleusis in 2023. The artistic works of 2023 Eleusis consist of Greek and international productions and constitute the main means for the development of regional strategies of the domestic cultural and creative sector.

The artistic projects of 2023 Eleusis decisively highlight contemporary domestic artistic creation, creating innovative cultural and artistic products through the use of the Archaeological Site of Eleusis as an event space, while promoting cultural heritage through contemporary art events and international productions, and promoting the film industry through the creation of documentaries that highlight and promote contemporary Greek culture in a multidimensional way.

The artistic projects proposed as meeting the requirements of Agenda 2030 for Culture include:

  • 3 large-scale performing arts productions (Romeo Castellucci's Mystery 11 Ma, Narrative Archaeology, Academy of Choreography)
  • 2 international documentary productions (The Eleusinians by Philippos Koutsaftis, Open Eleusis)
  • 1 production of a large-scale in situ visual art installation (Terracotta Army by Juan Esteban Sandoval).

MENTOR undertook the study submitted for funding to the Greece 2.0 National Recovery and Resilience Plan, securing the required amount for the realisation of the above artistic projects.
