“ANASKAFI / EXCAVATION” in the programme “All of Greece, One Culture 2026”

News

MENTOR in Culture participates in the implementation of ANASKAFI / EXCAVATION, an original site-specific performance and visual installation, which will be presented on 8 and 9 July 2026, at 20:00, at the Archaeological Museum of Aigio.

The performance is presented within the framework of the Hellenic Ministry of Culture’s programme “All of Greece, One Culture 2026” and is created specifically for the Museum and the city of Aigio, activating the relationship between contemporary art, archaeology, memory, and the local community.

ANASKAFI / EXCAVATION is not simply transferred to a cultural heritage site; rather, it is conceived as a site-specific experience that draws from the history, collective memory, and spatial identity of Aigio. At the core of the work lies the idea of excavation not only as an archaeological act, but also as a deeply human process of revelation, reconstruction, and care.

Just as the archaeologist reads the layers of the earth, searching for traces of habitation, erosion, and re-inhabitation, so too is the human being invited to move through the multiple palimpsests of their own experience: to return to what has been buried, to recognise fragments, to process ruptures, and to reconstruct their personal and collective landscape.

ANASKAFI / EXCAVATION approaches the Archaeological Museum of Aigio as a living space of experience, where the exhibits, the visual installation, the body, the voice, and sound compose a journey from the surface towards depth. Through this journey, the work enters into dialogue with the memory of the place and with the human need to stand before decay, loss, endurance, and the possibility of re-signification.

At the heart of the scenic experience is the visual installation “Skamma” by visual artist Dionysis Christofilogiannis, which functions as a visible incision between matter, memory, and theatrical action. Direction and performance are by Dora Stylianesi, music is by Diamantis Adamantidis, while the concept, dramaturgy, and texts are by Panos Giokas.

The presentation of the performance in Aigio highlights the importance of creating and presenting high-quality cultural works beyond major urban centres. Through the work, the Archaeological Museum of Aigio is approached not only as a place for the preservation and presentation of the past, but as an active field of artistic inquiry, contemporary experience, and connection between cultural heritage and the present.

For MENTOR in Culture, participating in the implementation of ANASKAFI / EXCAVATION is firmly aligned with its strategy of supporting complex cultural projects that connect contemporary artistic creation with cultural heritage, local identity, and the cultural development of the regions.
